  1. Could we have quoted the passage in which the words “unwelcome development” occur? Quoting them out of context does not allow the reader to understand in what way or for what reason it is thought to be unwelcome. Elsewhere in the story, the point is made that some people do not really want anal sex but feel pressured into it. Could it be that “unwelcome” is to be elucidated in terms of the perspective of such people, i.e. in terms of its being unwelcome to them?
