We catch up with Jane Griffin, of Waverley Care, and hear about their fabulous Tartan Ribbon Cleilidh birthday party, and everyone’s invited!

KaleidoScot: Tartan Ribbon Ceilidh? Tell us more…

Jane: 2014 is Waverley Care’s 25th birthday year and throughout the year we’ve been celebrating with people who use our services, staff and supporters. We wanted to have a birthday event that we could share with our many supporters in the LGBT community.

For a long time there was an annual LGBT switchboard Ceilidh that was much loved. We wanted to organise something similar where everyone in the LGBT community and beyond could come together and have a great night out.

KaleidoScot: Ohhh! We love birthday parties, when is it?

Jane: So this November, on Saturday the 8th at 7pm, we’ll be heading up to Summerhall where we’ll have ceilidh band The Sensational Jimi Shandrix Experience entertaining us in the Main Hall. Members of the Gay Gordons will be showing us how it’s all done with dance and then we’ll all be let loose!! For those that wouldn’t know a Gay Gordon from a Dashing White Sergeant we’ve got DJ Michelle in the party room. Our organising committee are getting creative in designing the spaces so it’s all going to look absolutely amazing on the night.

KaleidoScot: Exciting! Anything else?

Jane: As well as all this we’ll have a raffle on the night with some great prizes and everyone receiving a ticket on arrival. Ceilidh go-ers will also have the opportunity to buy tickets for our 25th birthday prize draw which will be announced on the night.

The Ceilidh runs from 7pm to 12.30am and after this we’ll be heading down to our sponsor CC Blooms to dance into the wee small hours. CC’s are also offering all Tartan Ribbon Ceilidh ticket holders 25% off food and 15% off drinks in the bar from Saturday through to Monday if they can show staff their ticket.

KaleidoScot: WOW, where do we get our hands on tickets?

Jane: With all this and more it promises to be a fantastic night out. Tickets are available now at £15 from our website – www.waverleycare.org/ceilidh

All profits made from this event will be used to support people in Scotland living with HIV or Hepatitis C.
