Gay Aussie diver Matthew Mitcham wins gold

Fans of Tom Daley didn’t get the victory they were hoping for in yesterday’s Commonwealth Games synchronised dive event in Edinburgh – because he was pipped to the post by gay Australian diver Matthew Mitcham.

Mitcham, 26, has previously won gold at the Olympics with a record-breaking score. He took on the sychronised challenge with dive partner Domonic Bedggood, while Daley was paired with James Denny and won silver.

Mitcham has now been winning major championship events for an impressive 12 years. He has said that coming out wasn’t a big deal to him, as he doesn’t understand why people make a fuss about these things anyway, but says that he has been moved by the letters he has received from young gay fans.
