Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale has announced she got engaged to her partner Louise Riddell.

In an interview with the Daily Record, Dugdale said she was “utterly thrilled” after getting engaged during a holiday Mallorca.

She said: “I’m utterly thrilled to be marrying the love of my life and we can’t wait to start planning.”

Dugdale added: “We hope this news brings a smile to peoples’ faces and we’ll certainly be toasting all those campaigners and activists who made marriage equality possible.”

The couple have been together since 2008 but Dugdale, 34, only came out four months ago.

The couple shared diamond rings from Glasgow.

Dugdale is the fourth Scottish party leader, including Green Party Patrick Harvie, Tory Ruth Davidson, and UKIP’s David Coburn to come out as gay or bisexual.

When the Scottish Labour Leader came out she said: “I don’t talk about it very much because I don’t feel I need to.”

Dugdale announced her engagement on twitter and was congratulated by many politicians across Scotland and the UK.

First minister Nicola Sturgeon congratulated the couple.
